I am Mohamed Hamdhoon, a sports journalist working in Maldives leading Media group ‘Haveeru’ which runs the longest serving daily newspaper and an Online. I have a passion for journalism since childhood.
Born in S. Hulhudhoo on 3rd November 1990, but I shifted to Male’ in 1994. I started my primary education in Iskandhar School and completed secondary education and GCE O level from Majeedhiyaa School in 2006.
I started my media career in April of 2008 from Raajje Daily. I joined that new-born newspaper as a local journalist. But after 1 month I started covering sports as the paper didn’t have a regular sports journalist. I was a football fan since childhood so it was a very interesting to cover sports.
After spending 1 year at Raajje Daily I joined Haveeru on April 2009, which was a big step for my career. Apart from covering sports I contribute in the organizing of the Haveeru sports award, which is Maldives’ most prestigious sports award. Organizing judge meetings and the award night is an interesting assignment.
I have hosted programs at Capital Radio as guest RJ back in 2009.
I have covered all major events of Maldives football, Basketball, Athletics, Table tennis, Badminton, Swimming since 2008. And I have covered International events such as World cup qualifying, AFC Challenge cup, AFC Cup, 2008 and 2011 SAFF Championship and 2010 South Asian Games. I have traveled New Delhi, Colombo and Dhaka to cover International sporting events throughout my career.
I have interviewed world renowned sports personalities such as Former Real Madrid coach Carlos Queiroz, AFC Vice president Mr Ganesh Thapa and Local sports personalities, coaches and Captains of South Asian National and club football teams.
Currently I am doing Bachelor of Arts in Journalism in Maldives National University.
In my spare time I watch movies, read books and do researches. I love watching and playing football and listening to music. I am very keen on Physical fitness as I enjoy a jog regularly.
